Sports Injury Prevention & TreatmentEnhancing Athletic Performance In my general practice and as the team doctor for the UC Santa Cruz men's and women's volleyball teams, www.goslugs.com, I see a lot of sports injuries. Olympians and professional athletes alike have long known that Applied Kinesiology (A.K.) and Chiropractic are effective methods of treating pain and injury and increasing athletic performance. World and Olympic Champion Dan O'Brien says "If not for chiropractic, I would not have won the gold medal." Whether you are a "weekend warrior," a professional athlete, or are just trying to play sports with your kids, you may not be functioning at 100% and may not even be aware of it. Many
injuries are caused by direct trauma to a joint and cause extreme pain.
Other injuries are caused by repetitive motions such as running or
swinging a golf club, and may dramatically decrease your performance,
while causing very little pain. Many people, even serious athletes, do
not realize that every joint in the body is moved by a series of
muscles, not one single muscle and that the brain tells the muscles to
contract or not. The muscle's protective mechanisms cause it to stop
working when further contraction would cause injury. This leaves the
joint unstable and even if other muscles are moving the joint, it is
not working at 100%.A.K. specializes in finding which muscles are not doing their intended work and turning them back on. Not only do the patients see a dramatic decrease in pain, but also experience incredible improvement in their athletic performance as well. What Pro-Athletes are saying about Chiropractic "I only wish I had tried chiropractic a few years ago when I first started having back pain and maybe surgery would have never happened-now we know that chiropractic is not for just bad backs or necks. It's about prevention, so your body can function at optimum health. That is why children should also be adjusted." - Joe Montana "If not for chiropractic, I would not have won the gold medal" - Dan O'brien "The best way to use Chiropractic is not only after injuries, but before they occur" - Arnold Schwarzenegger "I definitely try to get on a basis where I use chiropractic at least twice a week. I would definitely say that it helps me to perform at a higher level." - Emmit Smith "Once I drove 20 miles to see a chiropractor before a fight. I have to have my adjustment before I go into the ring" - Evander Holyfield "I would estimate that in excess of 90% of all world class athletes use Chiropractic care to prevent injuries and increase their performance potential" - Sean Atkins, Ph D Exercise Physiologist The following are just a few of the pro athletes who rely on chiropractic for peak performance: Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, Andre Agassi, Greg LeMond, Joe Montana, Nolan Ryan, Muhammad Ali, Carl Lewis, Kareem Abdul-Jubbar, Dan O'brien, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emmit Smith, Ivan Lendl, Evander Holyfield, Jerry Rice, Ryne Sandberg, Jackie Joiner |
